Questions
Straight answers from the desk
The questions that come up every week, answered the way we answer them on the phone: plainly, and without promising what a custodian will not give.
Transcripts and diplomas
My school closed years ago. Can I still get my transcript?
Usually, yes. When an institution closes, its student records are handed to someone: a successor school, a state education agency, an accreditor's archive or a district office. We trace who holds the files now and file the request with that custodian. If the records truly did not survive, you get a written account of every office we checked.
What do you need from me to start a request?
The name you trained under, including any earlier names, the school or provider, the program, and the rough years of attendance. A student number helps if you still have it, but it is rarely required. Everything else — the right office, the right form of request — is the desk's job.
Do you request records outside Colorado?
Yes. Education records research runs nationwide, because registrars and state custodians answer written requests from anywhere. The desk itself is in Loveland, Colorado, and Colorado work is where we know the offices closest.
Closed schools
How do you find who holds a closed school's records?
We work the chain: successor institutions that absorbed the programs, the state agency that oversaw the school, the accreditor's files, and district or county offices where the training was sponsored. Each step is documented, so the file shows how the custodian was identified and not just who it turned out to be.
What if the records cannot be found at all?
Then we say so in writing. You receive a summary of the search: which offices were contacted, which indexes were checked, what each of them answered. That document itself is useful — it shows an employer or a board that the search was real and thorough.
Licenses and apprenticeships
Can you check an occupational license?
We run index-level checks of the state license listings for trades and technical occupations, and report the issuing board and the license status exactly as published on the day of the check. We do not interpret what an entry means — we show you what the index says and name the office that holds the full record.
Can you document apprenticeship hours and certificates?
Yes. Apprenticeships are recorded by the sponsoring body: program completion, hours served and certificates earned. We gather those records into a timeline of the training you finished, with the issuing body named for every certificate.
Working with the desk
Who is this service for?
Tradespeople, career changers, veterans, self-taught technicians, and employers who hire for skills rather than diplomas. If your ability has to be proven to someone else — a hiring manager, a licensing board, a benefits reviewer — this desk builds the proof.
Do you give legal advice?
No. No Degree Required is a research desk, not a law firm. We find records, request them and document what they say. For questions about your legal position, talk to a licensed attorney.
How do I start?
Use the message form on the contact page, email [email protected], or call +1 (646) 555-0173 Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Mountain Time. Describe the training and the record you need; Ryan will tell you plainly whether the desk can get it.
Question that is not on this page?
Ask it directly. The desk answers every enquiry itself.
